Desiccated coconut is showing a useful 2026 market signal: Indonesian export availability has strengthened while prices have eased from the extraordinary highs seen during the previous shortage cycle.
1. Indonesia shipped more volume
According to the International Coconut Community’s June 2026 market review, Indonesian desiccated coconut shipments increased 21.9% year-on-year to 36,709 metric tons during the reviewed period.
2. Export value did not rise with volume
ICC reported export earnings of about US$74.3 million, down 2.1%, because average export prices fell by nearly 20% year-on-year. This is a reminder that higher physical exports do not automatically mean higher supplier margins.
3. Indonesian prices were correcting
ICC reported Indonesia’s reference price declining from about US$2,650/MT in January to US$2,095/MT in May 2026. Prices remained above many pre-shortage historical levels, so the market was normalising rather than simply becoming “cheap.”
4. Global demand remained relatively resilient
World imports were broadly stable in January–April 2026. EU27 imports were virtually unchanged at about 30,387 MT, while US import volume increased 5.8% to 14,698 MT. ICC linked demand particularly to food processing, bakery and confectionery uses.
5. A concrete Indonesian export example: Gorontalo to Germany
Indonesia’s quarantine authority reported that 26 tonnes of desiccated coconut valued at Rp1.2 billion from Gorontalo were exported to Germany in June 2026. The shipment is useful evidence of active European-market movement from an Indonesian regional production base.
Buyer takeaway: market access at country level does not mean every producer is qualified for every destination. Food-safety systems, product specification, microbiological limits, packaging, labelling and destination requirements remain supplier- and shipment-specific.
6. What buyers should ask before requesting a quote
Commercial discussions should define cut/grade, fat content where relevant, moisture, microbiological criteria, colour, particle size, packaging format, certifications, shelf life, quantity, destination and required documentation.
7. Why CTN will track market intelligence separately
Product explainers answer “what is it?” Market intelligence answers “what is happening now?” Keeping those content types separate helps buyers understand both the technical product and the commercial environment without mixing temporary market movements into evergreen specifications.
